Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is a direct sequel to Transformers: War of Cybertron. Unfortunately I never got to try the first one, time flew by and I can’t even recall ever being curious about it. Which I feel may have been a mistake. I’ve been able to get a sample of gameplay with Fall of Cybertron and I’m really impressed with how everything works with the game. This game has done something that even the Transformers movies weren’t able to do, an occurance of flashbacks of my childhood sitting in front of the television watching rented VHS of Transformers kick in, and I can’t help but feel within the short time I’ve had with this game, it may be better than watching the movie.

Rumor: PlayStation All-Stars Details Leaked

PSAS
A series of images have been revealed on Reddit and NeoGAF claiming to be leaks of characters from PlayStation All-Stars. The playable characters list consists of: Ratchet (Ratchet & Clank), Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet), Spike (Ape Escape), Sir Daniel Fortesque (MediEvil), Nariko (Heavenly Sword), Dante (Ninja Theorys Devil May Cry) and Raiden (Metal Gear Solid).

Even though I’m a big fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, I didn’t enjoy much of Raidens presence in Sons of Liberty and Guns of Patriots, however, with Solid Snake being in Super Smash Bros, I’d be fine with Raiden. Nariko presence should be a must, being one of the few female characters that stand out in the PlayStation family, and generally speaking, one in a few female characters that actually carry an interesting story. The list reveals a good amount of characters, but I think we can all agree there is still plenty of characters Sony can still use. Which character would you like to add to the list?

FFXIII Versus still in development

Square Enix CEO, Yoichi Wada, confirmed via Twitter that Final Fantasy XIII Versus is still in development. It wasn’t until last week that rumors kicked off reporting the project was canned. Now we can all put this to rest but for the mean time, I’ll leave you with a fun question. What will be released first? The Last Guardian or Final Fantasy XIII Versus?

Malicious arrives on the PS3

Malicious, developed by Alvion, will be released exclusively on the PlayStation Network later today. Malicious gets you right into the action, featuring a Mega Man like aspect which you select a stage and defeat a boss, gaining new weapons and building powers.  Malicious will be available later today for $9.99. However, you can purchase the game at a 20% discount if you are a PS+ member until August 7th. The PSN will also be updated with Malicious avatars and themes, which I’m hoping will be appealing. It’s been a long time since I’ve changed my PS3 theme… Considering the price, it looks like I will be checking this game out.

Also there has been no word about the PSVita version. Malicious was first announced for the PS3 but an announcement of a Vita port was followed by the success in Japan. I wouldn’t get my hopes up thinking you can play the Vita version later today. The Vita version is suppose to be a port with additional content, so it’s going to be awhile before the release. It will be interesting to see how they treat the Vita version, will you be able to download the Vita version at a discounted price if you purchased the PS3 version? Hopefully soon we’ll find out.

Track of the Week: “Resistance and Extermination” (Gravity Rush)

This became one of the hardest articles for me to write. As I selected a song from Gravity Rush, I couldn’t help but want to ditch this article and go back to playing the game. I can give you a few reasons why but I’ll save that for the review coming soon. As I started Gravity Rush, I was instantly surprised by the soundtrack. The overall feel of this game is light, and fun. Just when you think the game is about to be serious, you’ll find a silly conversation with a character around the corner, and that’s not a bad thing. The music certainly helps convey this adventure mixed with serious, light, and fun themes.

Resistance and Extermination is the theme played while engaged in combat. It combines the serious and fun feel of the game. While this music is playing, there is so much going on. Enemies are spawning, and civilians need to be protected. You can fight on the ground with your ground combos as well as float in the air and use gravity to deliver attacks. There are times where you are swarmed by enemies with your gravity bar is depleting, which leaves you fighting on the ground until it fills back up. The music delivers this feel of tension as you are fighting on the ground then in the next second or two, shifting into the gravity state to deliver an attack to a flying enemy which you might miss and try again, while a civilian is crouched over asking to be saved. All of this with Kat flying through the air, screaming, getting ready to land her Gravity Kick. This game does have a serious moment or two but overall never tends to get too serious. It’s filled with a light story, adventerous gameplay, and a world to explore, followed by a soundtrack that conveys the exact feeling you should be feeling given the scenerio. It was tough to decide on what piece I wanted to make my article about, but I believe this theme gives the listener a taste of what this game is about.

Sony’s E3 Press Conference: The Best Is Yet To Come

According to Jack Tretton, I have been gaming for 17 years! Holy hell I’m old. Where has all that time gone? Anyway, I’ll move on before I get sidetracked and reminisce. As always, the PlayStation Press Conference opens up with Jack Tretton acknowledging the gamers and thanking them for their support. There are times where it seems he is reading from a script but there are times as well where he talks as he’s one of us and I always appreciate that from him.

The Press Conference opens up strong, with David Cage from Quantic Dreams attending the stage to discuss his teams new game, Beyond: Two Souls. Beyond will follow 15 years of Jodie’s life, allowing you to experience the life of a person who has the ability to see spirits. Jodie is played by the actress Ellen Page. Your actions and decisions will determine her fate as you engage in this emotional action thriller. Quantic Dream clearly believes there is an audience out there for adult gaming. With the release of Heavy Rain, and a first look of Beyond, I think they have proven their point.

Shortly after, Tretton talked about the PlayStation video “Michael”. As many of us guessed, the video was a teaser of what was to come, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royal. SuperBot announced the title will be releasing for the PlayStation Vita as well, which will be cross compatible. What’s pretty neat about this, as they demonstrated, the Vita can be used as a controller to participate in this game. It wasn’t until I realized that I have 2 PS3 controllers that I now have a third! I have to say, I’m a bit disappointed. We didn’t see really anything new. We saw the same level and characters as it was first announced, with the addition of Nathan Drake, and Big Daddy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m looking forward to this title, but I felt they could have released a little more information. More characters, levels, or some footage on some characters attacks. Along with the announcement of cross play for PlayStation All-Stars: Batlle Royale, LittleBigPlanet 2 has been confirmed to receive a DLC that includes the cross play feature as well as additional costumes and levels.

Diablo 3: First Impressions

You’ll have to excuse my absence from the blog. I have been very busy playing games, well, for you guys. I mean, I wasn’t really interested in Diablo 3. Diablo 2 was great– any Warcraft game is great– but I decided to play Diablo 3 just for you, the reader…

So here we go. There are a few things I want to mention before we even start Diablo. After the login screen, you will be presented with the In-Game Menu. From here you have a few options to select.

Start/Resume Game – From this option you can start your game or resume a game that you previously left with an unfinished quest. If you are going to log out, try and make sure you have reached a checkpoint. The game will resume according to the last checkpoint reached.

Change Quest – Any previous quests you have completed, you can come back to thanks to this option.

Public Games – Complete some quests with the aid of another player. There is a level lock to these quests. For example, you can’t be level 30 and join a public game with a player who is level 1. However, you are free to join a friend’s game regardless of level.

Auction House – Here you can buy, sell or bid on equipment and items. To redeem the item that you bought, click the Complete tab and you will find a button that says Send to Stash. There will be an option to use real currency, but due to Diablo 3 launch day server issues, the plan to bring that option live has been delayed.
